For measurement of density, we required to measure mass and volume.

Mass can be directly measured by any balance, and it's unit will be either kg, g or mg etc.

But to measure volume we required to measure dimensions of the object and it's unit is either m3 , cm3 or mm3

Now

Percentage error in density = % error in mass + 3× %error in dimensions of object.

So the dimensions of object are most sensible for error in density.

Hence it should be measured accurately.

And caliper is the most significant instrument to measure the dimensions.

That is why density using caliper measurements error on the minimum side of range.
