Furanocoumarins are polyphenol produced by various types of plants, which are responsible for phototoxic reaction in human.

The furanocoumarins can react with nucleobases in DNA in the presence of UV A radiation, which leads to the formation of interstrand cross-links in thymine residues of DNA which leads to the dermatitis (photocontact dermatitis and cancer in skin). It mainly affect the DNA replication.
