Ans 1 :
There are basically two types of properties : physical and chemical
The physical properties such as colour , density , boiling point etc can be measured without having to change the chemical composition of the compound whereas the chemical properties can be measured only by reacting the compounds and hence changing their chemical composition.
These properties are fixed for a pure compound at given temperature and pressure conditions. As we change the temperature and pressure of the system , the properties also change (without changing the chemical composition).
For example : water boils at lower temperature (less than 100oC) at high pressures.
1. Without changing the chemical composition of a material, how can you change the properties of...
How does Physical Weathering change the chemical composition of a rock material? It creates new, different minerals from the old minerals It doesn't change the chemical composition of a rock material It dissolves soluble minerals, moving ions into solutions It relies on chemical reactions to break down the minerals In the ASCE or USBR Rock Weathering Descriptors, the description of "Moderately Severe" says that all (minerals) except quartz are discolored or stained, and that all feldspars are dull, discolored and...
2. What is the carbon content of 1020 steel? How does changing the carbon content affect the properties of steel? To make a material such as steel more ductile what changes can be made to its chemical composition? (15 points) 3. What are several common point defects in metals, list 2 and provide a brief description of them? Specific to steel what is the main type of point defect and why is it important to the behavior of steel? (15...
You can change the gravitational force between two objects without changing the mass of either or moving them relative to another if you can manipulate the magnitude of G. But G is a constant. What is G? A) it's just a constant and that's all we need to know B) it's a constant and its magnitude is not particularly important C) it is sort of a thermostat setting for the strength of gravity in our universe D) it is sort...
Can you please define the following terms in your own words, without changing the meaning of its original definition. 1. Exocytosis 2. Endocytosis 3. Pinocytosis 4. Fluid Mosaic model of cell membrane 5. Active transport 6. Passive transport
What does the solvent we use in the extraction assume about the chemical properties of the antibiotic compound?(A)How can we assess whether the antibiotic is present in our extract? (B)What else do we need to learn about the observed antibiotic activity? (C)How to you proceed to study your antibiotic extract?
A new chemical pesticide developed for agricultural use is a suspected mutagen. Describe how you would test whether or not the suspected chemical pesticide is mutagenic. In your description, list the name of the test used, detail the procedure used during testing, and state how you would expect the results to appear if the chemical pesticide was indeed a mutagen.
1. I hear people talking about how a person's personality can change throughout their life depending on the people they associate themselves with and can be changed if they change their lifestyle or the people they surround themselves with. But according to Freud's development of personality theory, person's personality is established at Stage 5, seeming almost as if it is genetic. I have no actual opinion of whether it is genetics or social, but I do believe it is a...
One environmental factor that can alter the density of substances is a substantial change in temperature. How do you think, for a given material, the density might change from solid, going to a liquid then to the gas phase?Explain your reasoning (think of the ice cube in the density tower)
Thought Experiment: A composite material is composed of two mixed materials. Composites can take many forms, like mixed metals, mixed polymers, mixed liquids, mixed gases, liquids dispersed in polymers, solids suspended in liquids, etc. Essentially, any singular system in which two or more distinct phases can be identified can loosely be called a composite (for example, we might define an immiscible mixture of water and oil as a composite, but we would not define saline solution – salt dissolved in...
No need for evidence Question 4. How can you tell from a position graph whether the instantaneous velocity was positive, negative or zero? What evidence do you have to support your answer? How does the slope of a position graph indicate whether the velocity is constant or changing? What evidence do you have to support your answer? Question 5. Question 6. How does the slope of a velocty graph indicate whether the velocity is constant or changing What evidence do...
