Social exchange theory suggests that people look for equal amount of participation, reciprocity and involvement. This theory suggest that people weigh the cost and benefit analysis when they engage in a social interaction. If the benefit is more than or equal to the cost in terms of time, effort and trust, one would engage in the interaction but if the cost is more than the benefit, then people would withdraw from that relationship or interaction. This is all about give and take policy where everyone expects to get more and give less but in reality it has to be atleast equal.
