Explain how you would identify a tissue on an unlabeled slide (How would you confirm or eliminate any of the primary tissues on the slide?)
Ans . There are four basic type of tissue which includes epithelium, connective tissue, nervous tissue and muscles. Each contain there sub type that may look different but have some similar characteristics.
1) Epithelium
Characteristics to identify-
a) look for a free apical surface - every epithelial tissue has a free surface that face either a hollow organ' s inner surface or outer environment ( skin).
b) determine the number of cell layer - an epithelial tissue is divided into two sub classes on the basis of number of layers - 1) simple epithelium ( single layer); 2) compound epithelium ( more than two layers)
c) determine the apical cell shape - on the basis of cell shape of apical layer epithelium is divided into three type - 1) squamous epithelium (flat cells); 2) cuboidal epithelium ( cuboidal cells) 3) columnar epithelium ( columnar cells)
NOTE - if the single layer of epithelium which consists of two type of cells some small and some are large due to which it look like multi layer. This type of tissue are called pseudostratified epithelium.
2) Connective tissue - marked by presence of matrix. Further divided into areolar connective tissue, adipose tissue, cartilage, bone and blood
a) No free surface ( no apical surface)
b) fibers are irregularly arranged, space present in between fibers (named areolae) then it is areolar connective tissue.
c) if the middle space is filled with fat globule ( either single large or small, many) than it is adipose connective tissue.
d) Cartilage - marked by presence of extensive matrix, fibers and a space present in center named lacuna ( in which two or more chondrocyte are present)
Note - if no fiber is present in matrix then it is hyaline cartilage while elastic fiber look similar to hyaline but elastic fiber is present
e)bone - easiest to identify marked by presence of haversian canal system and lacuna in center having only one osteocyte.

1. if given unlabeled samples of glucose, malfose and lactose how could you identify each of the unknown? support your answer with test- glucose steips and barfoeds test. 2. how would glucose, maltose, lactose, lactose +acid, and lactose+ base react with an maltase pill? explain the levels of glucose. 3. starchws and fiber are two other sources of carbohydrates. How do they differ from sugars? 4. With the addition of a lactase enzyme glucose and maltose reacted but lactose did...
Answer the following questions about muscle tissue: 1. What makes a skeletal muscle slide easy to identify from other tissue slides? 2. When you see a highly structured muscle cell with many nuclei pushed to one side, which muscle type is being observed? 3. What structure is unique and can be used to differentiate between smooth muscle slide and a cardiac muscle slide? 4. Why can it be hard to identify the smooth muscles in a slide? 5. Which muscle...
Dense Irregular Connective Tissue 1 Examine a slide of thick skin under low power. In Activity 5.1, you observed the epidermis. Locate this layer again and identify the type of epithelium. 2 Directly below the epidermis is the dermis of the skin. The deep region of the dermis is composed of dense irregular connective tissue. This type of connective tissue consists mostly of collagen fibers, although elastic and reticular fibers are also present. How does the arrangement of the fibers...
Explain how you would identify the size of a PCR product
1. Identify the connective tissue layer labeled C 2. Using the picture above, where would you describe the subarachnoid space. 3. Identify the connective tissue layer labeled E. 4. Identify the connective tissue layer labeled D 5. A infection of these layers of connective tissue is called 6. There are _pairs of spinal nerves emerging through the coming from the spinal cord.
If you were looking at a tissue sample under the microscope, how many tissue types would you expect to see? why?
Explain how a tissue-specific RNA-binding protein can lead to tissue-specific alternative splicing via splicing enhancers or splicing silencers. A.Trans-acting sequences that promote (splicing enhancers) or inhibit (splicing silencers) splicing are recognized by different classes of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs). B. Trans-acting sequences that promote (splicing silencers) or inhibit (splicing enhancers) splicing are recognized by the same class of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) in different tissues. C. Cis-acting sequences that promote (splicing enhancers) or inhibit (splicing silencers) splicing are recognized by different classes...
