Activity is nothing but the modern term , where previously concentration term was used. For ideal system, the concentration term is appropriate and for real system the activity (a) term is appropriate.

For ideal system, the concentration term and activity term is same. But for real systems one cantc use the concentration term instead it will be far more better to use activity term.
