I personally feel that from a thesis point of view its important to study about these things so that they may further lead to many research topics;

Human -in the loop : It would be really interesting to see how a human being is able to work with the machines as an insider and not just as a controller - manager - boss and how his output can be quantified & assessed because a lot has been said about ability of computers, bots, etc. I feel its time to determine the true ability of a human being and to see whether he is really prepared for the future.

Green World : The images of industrial revolution in history books has always been depicted by images of industrial chimneys emitting out hazardous pollutants, even after 4 generations we are still not serious about renewable energy sources, green manufacturing, saving natural resources.

Healthcare sector : Once a doctor said to me “ If engineers and doctors combine the world will turn into a healthy place in minutes” and to some extent I do agree with him. Healthcare has seen great advancements but a large chunk of those facilities is still not affordable by 60% of the worlds population , which is a major concern. Its time to make way for advanced Fitbits, bands, iWatch, etc which can give a doctor exact information about your situation.

Jobs : Well ! If there are softwares, machines, bots, programmes, to run this world what will the next generation do for a living ? It might not be a feasible topic for technical research but from management perspectives this is a case to worry and figure out solutoIns.

Research motivations

• The rise in new digital technology and the spread of Industry 4.0 are leading to major changes that could also affect academic education of young people and the learning of technical and engineering issues

• The goal of this work is twofold: – to investigate how skills are changing and which are effectively required by the digital transformation of Industry 4.0 – to know if a change of direction in the higher education is really needed

Research and methods

• The Technical Drawing Research Group of the universities of Brescia, Udine, and Cassino, involved students of their undergraduate courses in Automation, Industrial and Mechanical Engineering in a survey.  

• Students of the technical drawing courses were asked to answer to an online questionnaire in the first weeks of courses during two academic years: 2015-16 and 2016-17.  

• This survey was used to collect the opinions of the students at their first entrance in the university education system

• Students were interviewed on various topics which are not usually investigated by the classic university admission/entrance tests as: – their digital behavior, and habits, – about some engineering graphics and technical drawing competences

The data collection methodology was designed to take into account various concerns: – to use the same questions by all the three universities; – to automate data collection and analysis; – to facilitate student access to the questionnaire from the web.

The old models of industrialization run out: Economies and with it societies increasingly recognize the risks of globalization, job losses and resource shortages.
