Question

2. Calculate the [Ag] that would remain in solution under the conditions of the group precipita- tion, i.e., 1.0 MHCI and 0.
Group I Cations: The Silver Group Using a single reagent, how could you distinguish between the following pairs of substances
2. Calculate the [Ag'] that would remain in solution under the conditions of the group precipita- tion, i.e., 1.0 MHCI and 0.10 MAg at time of mixing.
Group I Cations: The Silver Group Using a single reagent, how could you distinguish between the following pairs of substances contained in separate test tubes? Give the net-ionic equation for each test. 3. a. AgCI and ZnCl, (solids) b. PbCl2 and HgCl2 (solids) Cd(NO,)2 and AgNO, (solutions) c. d. HCl and HNO, (solutions) e. Hg(NO3)2 and Hg(NO3)h (solutions)

Answer #1

2)

We know,

Ksp = 1.8*10^-10

Given data,

[Ag+] = 0.1 M

[HCl] = 1 M

Let us consider a reaction,

Ag+(aq) + Cl-(aq) ---> AgCl(s)

There is a Cl- excess so , [Cl-] = 1.0 and  Ag+ remains

We know that,

Ksp = [Ag+][Cl-]

1.8*10-10 = [Ag+](1.0)

Äg+* = (1.8*10^-10 ) / 1

[Ag+] = 1.8*10^-10 mol/L
