Among the top multi-national corporations, Oman Air has been chosen as the subject of discussion for the following analytical report:

The organizational behaviour of Oman Air can be assessed using McKinsey’s 7-S framework. Being the national carrier of Sultanate of Oman, they have set quite rigid organizational goals by promoting positive work culture with positive customer friendliness. To increase the corporate and employee relations, they have kept business talks quite transparent. For this, they also changed their organizational structure. Since the fleet management system is pretty large (it serves both domestic and international), the cargo influx methodology was made completely automated. The staffs are lead in an effective manner by their managers which gets reflected in their style of attending customers. The main value of Oman Air lies in its crew and fellow members. The board and managerial unit imbibe value within their co-workers seamlessly for the desired outcome.

Three major stakeholders in Oman Air are: The Government of Oman (owns 99.825% stake), Oman Sail and Qatar Airways. Since the airline business is prone to political changes as the political environment plays a vital role in determining the travelling frequency of visitors, the main concern for the board was its monopolistic nature. In 2008, they faced a major loss of 42.775 million RO due to economic downturn. Though traffic rose to 19% the following year, still they continued to face losses due to economic slowdown in the international market. The other two stakeholders doesn’t affect the sales figure to a considerable extent, however, they play a significant role in the brand image of the company. Oman Sail has recorded a growth of 13% since its foundation, thus it transcends its reputation to its partners as well. Qatar Airways on the other hand provides the limited consumer frequency which gives a push to the overall sales in the current financial year.

With rise in demand for skilled employees, Oman Air joined hands with Takatuf Oman LLC, the human capital solutions provider, for training and grooming their staffs for better organizational functioning. Since its inception in 1993, they overcame their challenges of low intellectual capital within the company premises. New managers are hired on a periodic basis and the existing ones are trained for upgraded services. However, in the last quarter of 2014, they introduced new carriers in their fleet which has resulted in depreciated pay schemes among fellow workers and engineers which has resulted in malfunctioning of the business. Smart investment ideas with strategic planning will erode this problem which might grow into a havoc in the near future.

Oman air has kept on increasing wages since its very foundation. In 2011, Oman Air and Omani Government agreed to new wage scales which included doubling of salaries. Between Dec’10 and March’13, staff salaries had increased by an average of 36% with even the lowest paid roles at the airline “paying significantly than the statutory minimum”. Good management team has also attributed to its comprehensive growth over the years. Based on the sultanate policies, the organization also offers benefits like staff conveyance, accommodation for the business managers and engineers, free travel allowance for the first year in service and so on.

Write a reflective paragraph summarizing your thoughts. Organizational change research has been criticized for neglecting the role of history in the study of change (Pettigrew et al., 2001). Much of the existing research tends to treat organizational change as “episodic” and comprising of independent events (Pettigrew, 1987, p. 655). More generally, research in organizational behavior has tended to ignore the theoretical and methodological significance of context in the examination of work attitudes and outcomes (Johns, 2006). In the studies reported...
