a) Using Excel we get,

sample variance = s2 = 1284.981 min2

sample standard deviation = s = 35.846 min

b) The observations were reexpressed in hours.

We know, 1 hour = 60 min

=> 1 min = 1/60 hour

Therefore, the new standard deviation would be 1/60 of the original and the variance would be 1/3600 of the original.

sample variance=1284.981/(60)2 =1284.981/3600=0.357

=> sample variance = s2 = 0.357 hr2

sample standard deviation = 35.846/60 = 0.597

=> sample standard deviation = s = 0.597 hr
