Question

Are grades higher on the second quiz? Here is a sample of grades from a large introductory statistics course. We are interested in testing whether the mean grade on the second quiz is higher than the mean grade on the first quiz. You may assume any required test assumptions have been met.

a) Complete the test if we assume that the grades from the first quiz come from a random sample of 12 students in the course and the grades on the second quiz come from a different, separate random sample of 12 students in the course. Clearly state the conclusion.

b) Now conduct the test if we assume that the grades recorded for the first quiz and the second quiz are from the same 12 students in the same order. For example, the first student got 72 on the first quiz and 78 on the second quiz.

c) Why are the results from a) and b) so different? Which is a better way to collect the data to

answer the question of whether grades are higher on the second quiz? Explain.

Student stress at final exam time comes partly from the uncertainty of grades and the consequences of those grades. Can knowledge of a midterm grade be used to predict a final exam grade? A random sample of 200 BCOM students from recent years was taken and their percentage grades on assignments, midterm exam, and final exam were recorded. Let’s examine the ability of midterm and assignment grades to predict final exam grades. The data are shown here: Assignment Midterm FinalExam...

Microsoft Excel Question. I'm having trouble using the vlookup function, I have calculated a final numerical grade for a hypothetical course, and and trying to use a set of numerical grades with their corresponding letter grades to get a vlookup function to return the letter grade from the numerical grade. However the function for some reason only returns the lowest value out of the set grades, not the closest match. Projects Classwork Teamwork/Integrity 100 100 A+ 98 A+ 97 A...

The students’ grades should be kept in an array. Once all students and their test scores are read in, calculate each student’s average (4 tests plus Final counts double) and letter grade for the class. While the following simple random samples of Statistics test scores both come from populations that are normally distributed, we do not know the standard deviation of the populations. The first simple random sample is drawn from the scores on Exam 1 for an on-line Statistics class and the second simple random sample is drawn from the scores on the exact same Exam 1 for an on-land (traditional) Statistics class. Using the null hypothesis that there is no difference in the...
