•34 year old male enters clinic complaining of diarrhea, a cough, headaches. Within the last few weeks, he has unexplained and rapid weight loss and has been running a fever. He indicates that he has not traveled anywhere farther than Dallas in the last few years, as he and his wife have been busy working and raising their two kids. Looking down into the man’s mouth…we see. A yeast infection of the mouth most commonly caused by Candida albicans. C. albicans is a part of the normal biota and general does not cause. We prescribe an anti fungal drug and our trusty intern suggests we order some blood work to get a WBC count.

  • Modes of transmission- direct contact by sexual contact , indirectly by damp towels etc
