Yes, it is unethical for authorities to tap an online service provider and read people’s email, as people’s emails consist or private content, messages, conversations and nobody will share those details publicly, but if the authorities are tapping into an online service provider and also reading people’s emails and other messages, it is most definitely a security and privacy violation. While the authorities may have good intentions for tapping the online service providers and to track down hackers, they have other options as well, without jeopardizing the security and privacy of the genuine users. And also such technology is dangerous and can be used wrongly also. Thus, yes, it is wrong and unethical.
