Orem's theory was given by Dorothea Orem. She believed that each individual has their own abilities for caring themselves and the nurses should try to sort out the cause of the individual's problem which affects their ability.
Orem's theory has three parts which are discussed
Orem's theory is very practical which can be often practiced in hospital setting, clinics even in home . This theory improved the fame of nurses by taking nursing to next level and changed nursing occupation to nursing profession. Self care theory use patient baseline data and develop their own technique to plan efficient high quality nursing care .The key to wellness is to function at the highest potential within the limitations over which there is no control. The nurse takes steps toward health promotion and also provide teaching about the disease process which will prevent the patient from further damage. Orem theory have a clear concept that, when nursing care is necessary and also it provides an outline of the nursing practices to be followed at the right time.
