Identify a particular health/nursing policy issue that you are interested in becoming involved with. Create an action plan for how you might become involved in this issue. (Note: this is not a policy inside the hospital or workplace - but a policy that is more out-reaching to the community, state or nation
There are currently many policies that are actively looked upon at hospitals and workplaces. However it is very important to also follow strict rules and regulations and amend policies outside health related institution for the betterment of the community and nation on a whole.
Given an opportunity, I would like to actively participate in a blood donation campaign that help in amendment of the Blood policy. It is very important that the blood and blood components collected from various blood donation drives or campaigns are safely procured from donor as well as supplied to patients in hospitals in a safe manner. Quality of the blood being donated is a major point that should be considered during the entire process.
In order to be an active part of the drive and also fulfilling the guidelines under the National blood policy, the transfusion of blood should take place under the supervision of trained working staff.
Plan of action:
In order to make sure that the campaign is taking place by abiding to all the policies of safety, I can be an active part of the drive at the following time points:
1. Taking part in the setup of the drive. making sure that sterility is always maintained.
2. Making sure that the best and latest technology is used for operating the blood transfusion services.
3. The donor should be questioned about his health profile and well as checked for prior to the transfusion. The donor awareness programme that involves knowing what motivated him/her, his education etc should be valuable inputs for safe donor blood transfusion.
4. Appropriate use of the blood procured is a key point to be considered.
5. Encouragement of Research & Development in the field of Transfusion Medicine.
An active National blood policy is already available. Being a part of such a campaign by abiding to the regulations of the policy can be my contribution outside hospital and health related centres. The reference is mentioned below
