Storage:

Blood should be kept at blood bank refrigerator at 4- 6 °C +/- 2° c. The Temperature should be monitored continuously. Usually stored for 35- 42 days.

Transportation:

Maintain cold chain at all level, I've packs should be kept in transportation box to maintain 4- 6°c.

Handling:

Once the PRBC's are dispensed, immediately arrange for transfusion.

Check the expiry date, storage temperature, blood groups carefully, if its not matching send it to the laboratory.

Checking:

Double checking of patients identification data.

Double checking of blood products pack for blood groups, ABo, expiry date.

Verify the patient consent.

Check for appropriate IV site.

Physician order etc.

Administration:

Before administering blood flush the IV line with normal saline.

Administer blood slowly.

Continue to monitor vitals every 15- 30minutes.

Disposal:

After completion of blood transfusion flush the IV line with normal saline.

After completion of blood transfusion discord the IV tubing's in to the red color bio medical waste management bag.
