There are many factors such as hospitalizations, childbirth, home visits upon which Doctor–patient relationships evolve over time but regular consultations is most important of them. The main aim of this relationship is not only diagnosis but is providing support and medical healing.

There were many historical changes in Doctor–patient relationships model, however, shared decision-making model is most famous among them which was evolved during the second half of the twentieth century. The main reason behind popularity of this model was the importance given to patient because this model allow patient to make choices, it gives patient the right to hold their own views, it respects them as autonomous agent, it suggests taking actions based on patient’s personal values and beliefs. According to this model patient should know the risks as well as benefits of therapies or no treatments so that they can select the best.
