Case Study, Part A

Damien Johnson, RN, BSN, graduated from university 10 years ago. Three years ago, he decided to continue his education and applied to an accredited nurse anesthesia program. He successfully completed the program, passed the national certification exam, and was hired by a small-volume ambulatory surgery center. Mr. Johnson performs his work well and enjoys it. He works with an anesthesiologist but is the only certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) on staff. He recently realized that as a nurse anesthetist, he has a limited number of professional contacts with other nurses employed at the center and that because the surgery center requires only one nurse anesthetist, he will not have many opportunities for interaction with peers and on-the-job educational opportunities. He is starting to feel dissatisfied.

Question 1

Is there a professional association that could assist Mr. Johnson to fulfill his need for peers and continuing education?

Question 2

Where else could Mr. Johnson go for professional support?

Case Study, Part B

Question 1

What sources of information can Ms. Cohen access to learn more about The Joint Commission?

Question 2
