TDF or terminal digit filing is a commonly used filing methodology. The TDF code has numbers or digits in three sections separated by dash. Eg 10-29-02

In the example above 02 is the primary digit. this directs the location of the file section.

29 are the secondary digits and 10 are the primary digits.

Primary digits are read as same 02

but secondary and tertiary digits are read in the reverse order.

In the example, secondary digits are read as 92 and tertiary digits as 01.

so the file will be found in the 02 section and shelf number 92 and file number 01

Now let us see the question file code 46-78-03

Here the file section or room is 03

file shelf 87 and file number 64
