Your uncle, John Smith, is going to turn 65 in three months. He is self-employed and has owned his own homebuilding business for the past 40 years. He has purchased his own health insurance plan through an independent agent for over 20 years. Now that he will be eligible for Medicare, he wanted to know more about the program. He saw a commercial about Medicare on television and it suggested to the viewers that they visit http://www.cms.gov/.

After going to the government website, Uncle John is still confused about eligibility for Medicare and needs more information.

Medicare is available for people age 65 or older,younger people with end stage renal disease..it is a jointly funded at the state and federal levels..it has four parts..part A,B,C and D..

Part A is hospital insurance with no premium

Part B helps pay for doctors,OP hospital care, physical and occupational therapy etc..

Part C is for medicare advantage

Part D is prescription drug coverage

When you are enrolling in original medicare part A and part B, the government run health care program for those 65 and older...when you turn 65you will be automatically be enrolled in medicare part A and part B..previous one month itself they will be eligible for meficare part A and B..

Initial enrollment period is a first eligible for medicare you have seven month period to sign up..this seven month period will begin before three months of 65th birthday..

Medicare may benefit for coverage that is not included under original medicare like personal care,optemetry services, dental service..it covers outpatient hospital services, nursing facility services, home health services, doctors services, lab, family planning, pediatric services etc...
