The rate of reaction depends of the reactants. Pure oxygen contains 100% oxygen gas where as air contains only 21% of the oxygen. Therefore, the rate of the reaction with pure oxygen is greater than that of with air.

For example, combustion of carbon to carbon dioxide, sulfur to sulfur dioxide and combustion of methane to carbon dioxide and water takes place with faster rate in pure oxygen than in air.
