Answer: Rheumatoid arthritis is a autoimmune disease. Our immune system protects our body from foreign invaders such as bacteria Or virus by attacking on them. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, the immune system attacks on body's joints and hence causes inflammation, pain on joint areas.

Sign and symptoms:

  • Pain
  • Inflammation near joint areas
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Fever.

Diagnosis:

  • Blood test for the ESR.
  • X- ray

Risk factors:

  • Females are at high risk of developing this disease.
  • Obese women and men are more prone
  • Environmental factors.
  • Old people easily develop this disease.

Treatment:

  • NSAIDs such as ibuprofen to reduce pain and inflammation.
  • Steroids are given.
  • Surgery of the joints which also includes tendons Repairment.

Complications:

  • Osteoporesis
  • Dry mouth
  • Infection

This disease can be managed by lowering weight as reduction in the pressure can provide relief. Having fish oil or food containing omega 3 fatty acids can be beneficial.
