You are the new, and first, lab manager for StartUp Medical Center. It's a 250 bed hospital with a large outpatient clinic. For the purpose of this scenario, assume you will be doing waived and non-waived testing. The hospital expects you to have a full operation lab and to be open 24/7. What ideas do you have for getting your new lab up and running and in compliance with CLIA requirements? You will need to interview and hire staff, acquire equipment. You will need a Quality Plan for the General lab and for each Department etc.... Some questions to consider: What do you need to worry about as far as CLIA goes (think back to Week 2). How will you decide what equipment to purchase? How will you decide how many staff to hire/staffing mix? What is a Quality Plan and what needs to be included in the plan? What about the budget?
