Employment Law Question
Can an employer specify "recent college graduates only" in an employment ad? Why or why not? What rule/law/regulation supports this?
Employers should examine their intent in using such a phrase. If the intent is to discourage individuals within a protected age group from applying, the phrase would be considered discriminatory and should be avoided. If the intent is to hire individuals into an entry-level professional position, it would be better to avoid the phrase "recent college graduate" and instead use the phrase "entry level professional position".
This is in accordance to the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.
