In C# applications are using back-end database to store and to
get information.
This database might be SQL Server database because .net is
microsoft product and most appropriate database to connect
application is SQL Server.
Both .net and SQL Server is given by microsoft.
In C# application can use different databases like Oracle , MySQL
etc.
Connection of application with other database like oracle and mysql
is totally depends on applications requirement.
Because whatever capabilities and functionality oracle and mysql
provides same kind of functionality sql server provides.

In .net whenever there is requirement to connect application
with database either ado.net or Entity data model is used.
Entity data model is kind of ORM that can created an database
design as per application needs.
Apart from these two there is no another way to connect to any
backend database applications like sql server , oracle or mysql
etc.

Now a days business are running from web , mobile and iot
applications.
For an application some users might access it from desktop based
browser or mobile.
Suppose some people might access amazon from desktop browser , some
from mobile browser or some other can access from IOT
applications.
