Describe how you are able to change the culture or core values of your organization utilizing positional power (HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION).

Discuss how you would use different types of positional power to go about changing organizational values/culture. What would it look like? Use characteristics of your own personal values when answering the question.

Ways we can change the culture or core values of organisation:

  1. Identify the various types of cultures currently in place in your organisation and people who get impacted by such culture
  2. Investigate how these cultures impact, how you as individual see these, so that you can start eliminating them
  3. Once those cultures identified, than set up individual responsibility and accountability in terms of how cultures are accepted.  
  4. For cultures to change, define what points in culture we want to retain and what cant be accepted
  5. Align changed culture to the process and brand so that employees can partner with these changed culture
  6. Review your efforts and implement the change as you deem fit.
  7. Don't rush up the process, changing culture takes time.

Different type of powers that we can use to change the cultures in an organisation

  1. Legitimate power - such power you get by holding your position and status in a company, such type of power individual can use to force things and guide the people to behave in a certain way
  2. Expert power - when people hold top positions in a company and they usually are expert in particular field. They can use such power to share their learned experience with other employees so that can also learn from them, and therefore culture can be changed
  3. Reward power - Leader generally have power to reward in terms of salary, incentive and bonus if employee will be behave in a certain way, leaders can use such power to influence employees in a certain way.
  4. Coercive power - this is opposite to reward power, here leader can punish people if they will behave in a certain way which is not accepted in company, leaders can use such type of power where employees are not behaving in acceptable manner.

As explained above all these positional powers can be used to fix the culture and thereon change the cultures in the organisation.

It is important to agree and have mutual agreement with respect to culture among top management and how they want the company cultures to be and accordingly fix them if required, until leaders have common agreement between them, it is not possible to change the culture as there will always be state of confusion.
