Catharsis is the harmless release of the emotions which provides relief. It is a concept in psychoanalytic theory, in it traumatic events associated with emotions associated come to the surface. The word “catharsis” has its origin in a Greek term for cleansing or purging, and it is associated with the elimination of negative emotions, affect, or behaviours correlated with unrecognized trauma.

My catharsis is music that affects my emotions and helps me a lot especially when I am in grief. Music always helped me in the transition from depression to acceptance- the grief process. The sad music often listened during depression stage act as a catharsis. That allows releasing the pent-up emotions without harming anyone else or myself. The healthy human's grief process will greatly be aided by music as catharsis.

The music interests shared with the lost one helps to overcome the feeling of loss and provides a sense of their presence and the loss. The realization of loss helps the grief process. The shared love of music allowed me to accept the loss of a loved one and provided the warmth of their love later.

The natural powers of music — of tunes, harmony, and rhythms — can affect the people very much. Music can be a leisure activity providing relaxation from stress and freedom from care or can be the means of communicating deeper truths and values.

When we weep at the beauty of sad music, we experience a profound aspect of our emotional selves that may contain insights about the meaning and significance of artistic experience — and also about ourselves as human beings. People find pleasure in the emotional complexity of listening to sad music when they are in unease. The people liked the imaginative music and daydreaming or creative problem solving inspired by sad music helps in catharsis.
