During my clinical rotation I saw a patient with urinary incontinence, she complained me that there is involuntary leakage of urine while coughing , sneezing , laughing and during physical activity. It was stress urinary incontinence .urinary incontinence is the unintentional loss of urine that most of the elderly face today .women are more prone to have this condition during pregnancy and child birth and after menopause.It can cause due to weakned pelvic muscle, pelvic trauma, spinal cord injury, caffeine and use of certain medications.people find difficult when they go out to get rest room quickly for voiding ,however there is Treatment to improve their continence also some excercises to strengthen bladder muscle like Kegel exercise.Scheduled toileting, including more fibre rich food in diet and avoiding caffeine can improve the condition. Also use disposable absorbent garments to keep dry .patient and family should be educated that it’s not shameful condition , it can be treated and Managed with some alternatives .
