Answer #1

1) \bar x = 4.9725

s = 0.0936

a) H0: \mu = 5

H1: \mu \neq 5

The test statistic t = (\bar x - \mu)/(s/sqrt(n))

= (4.9725 - 5)/(0.0936/sqrt(12))

= -1.02

At alpha = 0.05, the critical value is t0.025, 11 = +/- 2.201

Since the test statistic value is not less than the negative critical value, (-1.02 > -2.201), so we should not reject the null hypothesis.

B) H0: \sigma = 0.025

H1: \sigma > 0.025

The test statistic\chi^2 = (n - 1)s2/\sigma^2

= 11 * (0.0936)^2/(0.025)^2 = 154.19

P-value = P(\chi^2 > 154.19)

= 0.0

Since the p-value is less than the significance level (0.0 < 0.05), so we should reject the null hypothesis.

There is sufficient evidence to conclude that the population standard deviation exceeds 0.025 gram.

Screws Inc. has asked for assistance in determining whether the manufacturing process is operating correctly. When the process is operating properly, it produces screws whose weights are normally distributed with a population mean of 5 grams and a population standard deviation of 0.1 grams. The manager wishes to know if the recent change to a new materials supplier has lowered the weight of the screws. In a random sample of 16 screws, the sample mean weight is 4.962 grams. Is there...

A cereal company claims that the mean weight of the cereal in its packets is more than 14 oz. The weights (in oz) of the cereal in a random sample of 8 cereal packets are listed below. You may assume the sample data comes from a population that follows a normal distribution. Using a 0.05 significance level, test the companies claim. State the null hypothesis H0. State the alternative hypothesis H1. What is the test statistic? State the alpha level....

Please show all work. Use the following information for questions 1-10: A researcher is creating a new treatment protocol for Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a form of preleukemia. Following the old treatment protocol, 32% of patients with MDS will develop leukemia within 5 years of MDS diagnosis. He believes his new treatment protocol will lead to fewer MDS patients developing leukemia. He takes a random sample of 100 individuals on his new treatment protocol. Of these 100 individuals, 27 develop leukemia...

A Brisbane warehouse buys pre-packed bulk bags of Bundaberg Sugar with an advertised mean weight of 20 kilograms. To determine the validity of the advertised claim, the warehouse manager took a random sample of fifty packets from the latest shipment received and found an average weight of the packets of 20.015 kilograms. Bundaberg Sugar know, from analysing data over many years, that their 20kg bulk bag packing process results in a standard deviation of 55 grams. 1. State the direction...

please include degree of freedom thank you. An electronics manufacturing process has a scheduled mean completion time of 75 minutes. It is claimed that, under new management, the mean completion time, f, is less than 75 minutes. To test this daim, a random sample of 18 completion times under new management was taken. The sample had a mean completion time of 70 minutes and a standard deviation of 12 minutes. Assume that the population of completion times under now management...
