Farmers faced tough times in 1920's while most of the Americans enjoyed the phase of prosperity. This was mainly due to two reasons :

Due to high level of mechanization, the farmers were pressurized to purchase advanced machinery and agricultural equipments and thus had high debts.

There was falling farm prices due to surplus output produced by the farmers. Thus supply was much higher than the demand and as a result farmers didnt get enough prices for their farm output.
