Answer #1

Ans) Privacy talks about a person, but Confidentiality is about information. Privacy restricts the public from accessing the personal details about a person, whereas Confidentiality protects the information from the range of unauthorised persons.

- Privacy refers to the right to control access to oneself, and includes physical privacy such as ensuring curtains are closed during physical examinations. Privacy may also relate to information about oneself, and information privacy laws regulate the handling of personal information through enforceable privacy principles.

- Confidentiality is the protection of personal information. Confidentiality means keeping a client’s information between you and the client, and not telling others including co-workers, friends, family, etc.

Examples of maintaining confidentiality include:

• individual files are locked and secured
• support workers do not tell other people what is in a client’s file unless they have permission from the client
• information about clients is not told to people who do not need to know
• clients’ medical details are not discussed without their consent
• adult clients have the right to keep any information about themselves confidential, which includes that information being kept from family and friends.

- Disclosure: The ethical basis for the disclosure of information to patients and their families following an adverse event are the principles of being truthful, open and honest, respecting patient autonomy and putting the welfare of the patient first.

The world’s 3 billion-plus smartphones emit the kind of data that health authorities covet during outbreaks. They show where individuals are, where they’ve been and who they might have talked to or even touched — potentially offering maps to find infected people and clues to stopping new ones. But gaining access to this data, even amid a global pandemic, is made complex by the legal and ethical issues surrounding government access to information that can reveal intimate details about citizens’...
