imagine you placed a flask on top of a heater. A thermometer measures the temperature inside the flask. The top of the flask is closed tightly. The flask is filled with air, and the initial temperature is 20.

Write a scientific explanation for why the temperature of the gas rises when the flask is heated.

Since the top of the flask is closed at top,volume of gas is constant

from first law of thermodynamics

dQ = dU + dW

dQ- heat given to the system

du-increase in internal energy of the system

dW = work done by the system

at constant volume dW = work done by the system = 0

hence entire heat suplied will be used to raise the internal energydUI

hence the temperature of system increases
