Parish nurses are responsible for taking care of the health problems of individuals and families living in a community. The movement which has around 15,000 nurses registered in the United States (US) is called faith community nursing. The nurses focus on practicing spiritual faith along with nursing care.

Holistic care considers the relationship between the body, mind and spirit of a person in altering environment. The nurse members of the congregation perform the nursing process of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating various programs to promote holistic care.

This type of community is a combination of religious and spiritual influences on the health. There are some interventions for the nurses that they should keep in mind. They are as follows:

1. The nurses should be caring and should not offend the patient.

2. The nurses should respect the religious beliefs of the patient and his family.

3. The nurses should carefully listen to the patient and then they should use their intuition for assessment.

4. At the time of EOL (End-of-life) care, the nurses should provide full emotional support to the patient’s family.
