Assuming that XTAL = 8 MHz, and we are generating a square wave on pin PB7,...

Assuming that XTAL = 8 MHz, and we are generating a square wave on pin PB7, find the lowest square wave frequency that we can generate using Timer1 in Normal mode.

I have seen the solution where:

f = 65536x(12/XTAL)x2 But i have no idea where the '12' and the 'x2' comes from. Please help

Also, there was another problem similiar to the top but instead stated 'Highest square wave frequency' but the solution did not have the X2
