To produce clone mammals the nucleus of undifferentiated embryonic stem cells are preferred over differentiated stem cells nucleus to successful development of clones embryos via somatic cell nuclear transfer technique.
Since, undifferentiated embryonic stem cells are pluripotent which have ability to generate any kind of cell in the body via differentiation in later but already differentiated stem cells cannot do this function hence, if used in clone formation the there would be more chance of fetal death shortly after birth due to non-differentiation of stem cell nucleus to various types of cells such as muscle cells, osteocytes, blood cells, neurons and other.
