1. Discuss merits and demits of any three signalized intersections in Nairobi CBD. How have they contributed to traffic flow? (10 Marks)

Merits:

• Sense public transport through GPS inorder to get rid of more private vehicles.
• Cameras are installed at junctions which capture the digital number plate with microchip embedded in it to feed the data. This makes tracking easy and to know the legal details of vehicle.
• Speed limit can be controlled and violation of traffic lights can be reduced.

Demerits:

• One junction can even block traffic depending on what is happening on the other junction controlled from a traffic management centre.
• Fixed time gaps recorded in traffic signals may even stop traffic when in reality there is no traffic ahead. Such cases it is waste of time.
• Removal of roundabouts has increased,but instead modify them to fit the needs of different roads linked to junctions
