The leading causes of death in the United States in 1900 were due to the spread of communicable diseases pneumonia, tuberculosis, and gastrointestinal infections. These diseases were spread due to contacts of people with each other. But with the advancement in medical science and technology, the spread of diseases in 2019 is of head disease, diabetes, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, stroke and unintentional injuries like accidents and adverse effects.
The differences in the spread of diseases n 1900 and 2019 is that during 1900 the cause’s deaths were of through communicable diseases where people infected lacked basic hygienic sense and thus suffered and died due to these diseases. The century late, the people became highly hygienic and forgot to take are and maintain their health by possessing a healthy lifestyle and thus suffered and died due to lifestyle diseases like diabetes and head strokes etc.
Factors responsible for low death rate:
Notable decline in deaths due to communicable diseases could be attributed to advancement of preventive medicine, better hygienic conditions within the home and the overall society and general awareness. Infectious diseases like diarrhea and enteritis have come down largely due to improvement of environmental conditions and awareness among people about personal and general hygiene diseases like Influenza, pneumonia and diphtheria have largely come down due to proper vaccination and advancement of medicine to handle emergencies due to advanced disease condition.
