a) Think about, identify and write about 3 new/deepening competencies that workers for an an organization (of your choice) will need in the future. Explain.

b) How might an organization develop those competencies?

Answer 1

The organisation is McDonalds and the competencies apply for all categories of employees. The future employees would need to have following traits

(i) The employees would need to have and high interpersonal and collaborative skills to meet the needs of tomorrow. It is because, the need to be competitive and progressive would need a higher degree of organisation, co ordination, teamwork and efficiency among the employees, to set the standards of service and be more cost effective.

(ii) Employees would need to have higher emotional quotient and higher level of empathy with  ability to work under pressure to meet the challenge of notching up the standards of serving the customers well under challenging conditions, to fulfill the increasing levels of customer service.

(iii) The employees would need to be more IT savvy in the future, as most of the employees would be expected to work with technology, the influence of which is increasing day by day on our workplaces.

(b) Organisation can cultivate its leadership in such a way so as to pave the way of transforming the culture to prepare the employees to meet the needs of tomorrow. The adaptable leadership should work for continuous change in attitude of the people, by educating and training them, updating their skills, bring fresh ideas on board and create a balance of experience and new thinking, so that they are not caught off guard, should a challenging situation is encountered.
