Propionyl-CoA, the end product of β-oxidation of odd-chain fatty acids can enter the citric acid cycle after being converted to Succinyl-CoA.

Mechanism:

Propionyl CoA carboxylase in the presence of Biotin converts Propionyl CoA to D-Methylmalonyl CoA. D-Methylmalonyl CoA racemase converts D-Methylmalonyl CoA into L-Methylmalonyl CoA. Methylmalonyl CoA isomerase in the presence of Vitamin B12 converts L-Methylmalonyl CoA into Succinyl-CoA.
