Answer #1

Question 11

Answer: succinyl-CoA

The propionyl-CoA molecule is converted to D-Methylmalonyl-CoA by the enzyme propionyl-CoA carboxylase with the help of ATP. The D-Methylmalonyl-CoA molecule is converted to L-Methylmalonyl-CoA by an epimerase. The L-Methylmalonyl-CoA is finally converted to succinyl-CoA by the enzyme Methylmalonyl-CoA mutase.

No other option is correct because propionyl-CoA is converted into none of them during the fatty acid oxidation of odd-numbered fatty acids

Question 12

Answer: NADPH

NADPH is used in enzymatic redox reactions where anabolic processes are occuring. Cells maintain separate pools of NADH and NADPH. The former is used in catabolic reations while the latter is used in anabolic reactions. Since fatty acid synthesis is an anabolic process where simpler molecules are used to build up a larger fatty acid molecule, it uses NADPH for reduction. It is used in the conversion of Acetoacyl-ACP to D-beta-Hydroxybutyryl-ACP and in the conversion of crotonyl-ACP to butyryl-ACP.

FADH2 and NADH are used in catabolic reaction.

Acetyl-CoA is not used as a reductant.

Heme is embedded in proteins like Cytochrome and do not participate in fatty acid biosynthesis for reduction
