Frog census in South Australia. Periodically, the Environmental Protection Authority conducts a census of frogs in South Australia in order to monitor the health of aquatic environments. In the latest (2002) census, data were collected on 15 of the 28 frog species indigent to South Australia. Since every species of frog has a distinctive mating call, field researchers can identify the abundance of the species at a particular location simply by listening for the mating calls. In 2002, there were 152 recordings of the eastern banjo frog. For each recording, the field researcher estimated the number of frogs at the site. The accompanying table summarizes these data.
