In this project, you learn from where to configure IP address information in Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard.

To learn from where to configure IP address information:

1. Click the System Preferences icon in the Dock (or from Finder click Go in the menu bar, click Applications, and double-click System Preferences).

2. In the System Preferences window, click Network under Internet and Network (in Leopard) or under Internet and Wireless (in Snow Leopard).

3. In the left pane of the Network window, if necessary click an active network connection (designated by the green dot), such as AirPort or Ethernet.

4. Click the Advanced button.

5. Click the TCP/IP tab (refer to Figure 9-9).

6. Click the up/down arrows for Configure IPv4. Record the configuration options.

7. Move the pointer to an inactive area and click it to close the menu.

8. Click the up/down arrows for Configure IPv6 and record the configuration options.

9. Move the pointer to an inactive area and click it to close the menu.

10. Click each of the tabs for DNS, WINS, 802.1X, Proxies, and Ethernet (Leopard may not offer the Ethernet tab, depending on the patch level) to examine their information.

11. Click Cancel.

12. Close the Network window and any other open windows.
