Solutions For An Introduction to Genetic Analysis Chapter 16 Problem 17P

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

A mutational lesion results in a sequence containing a mismatched base repair:

Picture 1

Here,

A= Adenine,

G= Guanine,

T= Thiamine,

C= Cytosine.

If mismatch repair occurs in either direction the following amino acids could be found in that site.

The mismatch "T" will be corrected to C resulting in ACG. After the transcription, ACG will become 5' UGC 3', which codes for the amino acid cysteine.

The mismatch repair in the other strand would cause ATG to be transcribed as 5' UAC 3' that codes for the amino acid tyrosine.
