Summarize Skinner’s argument against the use of theory in psychology.
Skinner has testable argument against the use of theory in psychology. He accepted operationism but rejected the theoretical aspects of logical positivism. He considered that he was able to manipulate various environmental realms such as reinforcement contingencies and thus, observed the effects of this hypothesis on behaviorship suggesting that it is essential to achieve the functional analysis. That’s why, Skinner’s approach is also referred to as a descriptive behaviorism.
Skinner believed that it is considered as a waste of time to explain the physiological and mentalistic realms of a behavior that stimulates overt behavior and causes neurophysiological harassment. The approach of testing the use of Skinner’s theory towards psychology was considered as an obsolete that pertains to ignoring events that intertwined between the selection of behavior and the environmental cues.
