Why was Hull’s theory called a hypothetico-deductive theory?
Clark Leonard Hull and their disciples were considered to be the first psychologists that was attempted to create a major theory that was known as hypothetico-deductive theory of learning. He refined the research that had been justified by learning and then he explained the research in the form of general manuscripts, postulates and statements. From these postulates, he was able to deduce the theorems that yielded probable conclusions.
In hypothetico-deductive theory, Hull postulated a number of internal conditions that had to be taken into point of consideration. He considered that the intervening events were specifically physiological that are linked to desirable needs and innate drives. According to this theory, it is an elaboration of Woodworth’s S-O-R concept.
Using operational conclusions, Hull tried to show a number of internal events that are responsible for causing overt behavior. Thus, Hull’s hypothetico-deductive theory comes under the tradition of Darwinian theory because it has the ability to modulate reinforcement that is beneficial to the survival of an organism.
