What is the Turing test, and for what was it used?

Step-by-Step Solution

Alan Mathison Turing was a pioneering computer scientist, and mathematician, who also practiced as a theoretical biologist. He was highly efficient in developing theoretical computer science, and providing formalized concepts of algorithm and computation for analytical purposes. He is considered as the father of artificial intelligence and theoretical computer science.

The Turing test is ability of the machine to show intelligent behavior equivalent to humans. Turing proposed that a human evaluator could analyze and judge human-like responses for a given situation.

The evaluator could interpret two different individuals conversing in a machine, with all participants separated from one another. The conversation is limited to a text-rich data, so that the result would not be rendered based on machine's inefficiency in decoding speech.

Turing test is simple to use and decode. The test allows analysts to provide the machine a broad range of intellectual tasks. It also emphasizes on emotional quotient and aesthetic intelligence. However, the test could not be used for measuring the level of intelligence, or any other human quality.
