Because Apple offers the Leopard to Snow Leopard upgrade DVD at a very low price, many users are taking advantage of this opportunity. In this project, you learn how to upgrade Mac OS X Leopard to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. You need a computer running Mac OS X Leopard, the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Installation DVD, and a user account that has administrative privileges. Also, it is desirable for the Mac OS X Leopard computer to have wireless networking capabilities.

To upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard:

1. Access your account in Mac OS X Leopard.

2. Insert the Mac OS X Snow Leopard installation DVD.

3. In the Mac OS X Install DVD window, double-click Install Mac OS X (see Figure 5-34).

4. In the Install Mac OS X window, click Continue.

5. Click Agree to the agree to the terms of the software license.

6. In the next Install Mac OS X window click Install (see Figure 5-35).

7. In the Are you sure you want to Install Mac OS X? box, click Install (see Figure 5-36).

8. If requested, enter your user name and password. Click OK.

9. If you have any open programs or windows, you are prompted to quit them. Click Quit.

10. Next, you see the Installing window that shows the progress of the upgrade.

11. When you see the Install Succeeded window, click Restart (or you can wait a few seconds for the computer to restart automatically).

12. The Setup Assistant starts when the computer reboots.

13. When you see the Thank You window, click Continue (see Figure 5-37).

14. After you are logged in, close the Mac OS X Install DVD window, if it is open. Also, remove the Installation DVD.
