chkdsk is an important utility included in Windows XP/Vista/7, Server 2003/ Server 2003 R2, and Server 2008/Server 2008 R2 that verifies the integrity of a disk and its file system—and can fix problems that it encounters. In this project, you run chkdsk to see how it works.
To use chkdsk (in any of the Windows operating systems used in the projects):
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to or click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and click Run as administrator.
2. Type chkdsk and press Enter in the Command Prompt window.
3. What information does chkdsk verify as reported in the Command Prompt window? What other information is displayed? Also, did chkdsk fix any problems on your disk?
4. Close the Command Prompt window.
