Psychological study of participation and satisfaction. The relationship between an employee’s participation in the performance appraisal process and his or her subsequent reactions toward the appraisal was investigated in the Journal of Applied Psychology (August 1998). In Chapter 9 we will discuss a quantitative measure of the relationship between two variables, called the coefficient of correlation, t. The researchers obtained r for a sample of 34 studies that examined the relationship between participation in the appraisal and subsequent satisfaction with the appraisal. These correlations are listed in the accompanying table. (Values of r near +1 reflect a strong positive relationship between the variables.) Find a 95% confidence interval for the mean of the data, and interpret it in the words of the problem.
