Windows XP/Vista/7, Server 2003/Server 2003 R2, and Server 2008/Server 2008 R2 include the System Information utility that can help you find out more about your hard drive (as well as about many aspects of your computer).

To use the Windows System Information utility to study your hard drive configuration:

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to or click Accessories, and click System Tools.

2. Click System Information. The System Information window opens.

3. Click the + sign in front of Components in the left pane.

4. Click the + sign in front of Storage in the left pane.

5. Click Drives (see Figure 7-9).

6. Note the size of your hard drive and the amount of free space. Record this information.

7. Click File and then click Exit on the menu to close the System Information window.
